The stabilization of sugarcane production and the enhancement of its overall productivity are of critical importance in view of the continuously rising domestic consumption of sugar and the need to maintain a sustainable surplus for exports. Ensuring consistent yields and improved crop efficiency is essential for meeting national demand and strengthening Pakistan’s position in regional and international sugar markets.

Beyond its conventional role in sugar production, sugarcane holds significant promise as a future renewable energy crop, particularly for ethanol production. This offers an important opportunity to diversify the agricultural economy, reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels, and support sustainable energy solutions.

The Sugarcane Research and Development Board (SRDB), Punjab remains committed to promoting research-driven practices, modern agronomic techniques, and collaboration among stakeholders to improve productivity, value addition, and farmer profitability. Through these efforts, sugarcane can contribute meaningfully to national economic growth, energy security, and rural development.
