Kevin McCarthy is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 23rd congressional district since 2007. Born on January 26, 1965, in Bakersfield, California, McCarthy is a member of the Republican Party and has risen to prominence within the party's leadership.

McCarthy's political career began in the California State Assembly, where he served from 2002 to 2006. In 2006, he won a special election for California's 23rd congressional district seat, succeeding Bill Thomas, who retired.
