Abstract

To evaluate 186 clones at primary Nursery stage (Phase-I) against standard variety CP-77-400 a non replicated single row trial was laid out having net plot size measuring 5X2.4m. Keeping in view the desirable characters, 45 clones having desirable birx % growth and other quantitative characters were selected and were promoted to Advance Nursery trial while 141 clones were rejected due to undesirable characters. However, 1021%, 11.29%, 9.67%, 6.45%, 5.37%, 5.91%, 9.13%,4.83%, 3.76%,5.37% and 4.30% clones were rejected, due to poor growth, pithiness, low brix %age, aerial roots, cracks sprouts disease susceptibility, insect/pest infestation, hairiness lodging and short nodal length respectively.
