Syeda Azra Tariq

Abstract

The rodenticidal activity of Datura metel leave extract was evaluated against Short-tailed mole rat, Nesokia indica at 0.50%, 1.00%, 2.0% and 4.0% respectively per 1000 g wheat flour and broken rice in the laboratory. The quantity of bait consumed, pathological evidences, and mortalities occurred were recorded in rats fed on Datura metel leave extract. The results revealed that bait ingestion was inversely proportional to the concentration. Datura metel gave 100% mortality in 6.74 ± 1.96 days at 4.00%, 50% in 11.24± 2.41 days at 2.0%, 30% in 12.00 ± 3.23 days at 1.00% and 0% at 0.25% concentrations. The results demonstrated good acceptability and rodenticidal activity of Datura metel against the short-tailed mole rat and may be integrated in the rodent pest management.
